Everyone talks about the newest trix in fly tying, but trying to learn a basic knot from a book or film can be very confusing and fresturating (turst me, I've tryed). Can anyone recremend a website or book that will help out the beginners? I apresieat any help I can get.
thanks, Steve |

I'm just thinking of tying flies and it was recommended to buy Fly Tying mad clear and simple (an easy to follow all-color guide) by Skip Morris. It retails for about 29.95 CDN ISBN 1-878176-13-0
Hope this helps |

Hi steve, Well if your asking about knot's for tying the fly it's self only one I know of it's the whip finish the only real trick to it is keeping the hackle out of it..lol..you can try half hitch's by hand there are easy and if you break your thread that's what you do to reatach it.. now if it's knot's like blood knot nail knot's and and the like Orvis has a web site the will show you how to tie those..
have fun and tight line's |

One way I have found to keep the hackle out of the way while whip finishing is to cut a small piece of a drink stir stick keep it on the bobbin and when you are ready to whip finish slide it upover the hackle to hold it oout of the way .

Kele,
This is a fishing tackle builders forum paid for and run by an equipment retailer. Not a place where you post your rip-off investment schemes. Go find someone else to bother. -------------------- Dick Boultinghouse

I use a whip finish tied with my fingers exclusively. I dont think I've ever used any other knot while tying flies...
Huh, I just noticed this post is like 3 years old! Oh well. Hope buddygreen7's got it figured out by now! |
